This was my 5th trip to Valle Nevado ski Resort. I haven’t been there in several years, first because of the poor snow and then COVID. We arrived the last week of August to packed powder conditions. It had just snowed about 10” a few days before, so conditions were excellent. The pistas (slopes) were groomed daily and the resort was not crowded at all. As a matter of fact, during the week, most of the people skiing were guests staying at the hotel and ski teams in training. There are 3 hotels at the resort and apartments and condos that are rented by private individuals. We stayed at Hotel Valle Nevado which is their best hotel. Each hotel has at least 1 restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Remember, you are there to ski and not stay in the room all day. In our hotel, we had a boot / ski room to put on and store our equipment. The gentleman working there was so on the ball that at the end of the day, he greeted us on the snow so we wouldn’t have to carry our skis the 50 feet from the snow to the room and had our shoes placed in front of the bench for us to change into. There are 5 chairlifts there including 1 detachable quad (Andes Express). The gondola is mostly used by the day skiers getting up the mountain from the parking lot and several other surface lifts mostly Poma which are quite efficient and fast. For those who like off piste, there are plenty of choices and if you want you can hire a cat or helicopter at quite reasonable rates. The amenities such as hot tub and gym are there if you would like to partake along with limited shopping for ski and snowboard gear.
Great Summer skiing for those of us that live in the Northern hemisphere
You are rather isolated once there. Remember you are going there for the skiing!

This is our second visit to Valle Nevado. Last year, at the same time, early August, was great with lots of snow. This year is a bust with warm weather creating very icy conditions. The trails connecting main runs are barely covered and there are small sharp pebbles everywhere that destroy our skis. The resort claims to have more snow on the ground, so take their stats with a grain of salt. The saving grace is the barbecue lunches at mid mountain.

I went today to ski but snow is melting very quickly, many spots without snow, showing rocks. If you wants to ski next weekend will be a nightmare because lack of fresh snow

Estivemos em final de agosto e o tempo estava maravilhoso. Estação de Ski para todas as idades. Bom atendimento, segurança e excelentes restaurantes. Recomendo a todos!

Great options for all levels/ages. Can get crowded.

Not enough beginner trails. Most of the beginner trails are on the front side of the resort.
Good trails and maintained well. Great resort for experienced skiers and snowboarders.
Most of the trails here are reds (blacks) or double blacks. Not that great for beginners or intermediate skiers.

I didn't love Valle Nevado. Everything - facilities, verticality, snow - was fine, and it's the beautiful andes so i feel conflicted about complaining, but there are some pretty nagging problems. the terrain is lazily maintained and this is frustrating upon considering the potential of the terrain if staff did anything to improve or even just maintain it. there are also impossible to avoid butt pulley lifts which are run irresponsibly fast and injure riders. the clientele we encountered were incredibly obnoxious in most regards, but especially in rules of the road on-piste - and there were a ton of newbs all over the mountain in addition. All of these problems slowed us down and diminished our enjoyment significantly. the most significant difference of Valle over its competition is that its lodges and facilities are the most modern of any of the Chilean ski areas, and it's quite comfortably laid out from a logistical perspective. this plus a large lessons program may explain its popularity with families. when we were here over several days in August 2010, the powder and coverage was just OK, we fared much better at La Parva. other things to keep in mind: -in this part of Chile - try to ski straight through 10-2. any earlier is crusty, and at 2 it becomes slush o'clock -trails are barely marked - usually only a single metal stick with the color of the terrain difficulty -skiing above the treeline means goggles with good contrast are hugely important
nice modern facilities, great for kids
obnoxious clientele, lots of learners, too many j-bars
Todavia no hay nieve para esquiar, pero sale abierto. There are on snow to ski, but it seens that it is open!!!

Valle Nevado is the newest and grandest of the Tres Valles resorts. Sporting Chile’s only detachable quad and a five star hotel at its base area, Valle Nevado attracts a very international crowd that enjoy its expansive intermediate focused terrain. Valle Nevado features huge wide-open slopes amidst spectacular mountain scenery. With an amazing 9,000 acres of in bounds ski-able terrain and the highest lift service in the Southern hemisphere, Valle Nevado presents vast powder opportunities. In addition to Valle’s ginormous in bounds area it also offers private heli-skiing in its adjacent valleys. What Valle Nevado lacks in steepness and extreme terrain it makes up for in pure area. The Tres Puntas poma lift, the longest in South America, drops riders off at 3,670 meters (12,040 feet) beneath the gargantuan 17,000 foot Cerro Plomo Peak. Valle Olympico provides incredibly fun natural half-pipe sculpted terrain while the Los Andes Express lift allows riders to crank out vertical getting those summer ski muscles in tune pronto. Getting to Valle Nevado involves an additional 20 hairpin switchbacks from the village of Farellones. The road passes the impressive Santa Teresa backcountry zone, which makes for an unforgettable end of the day off-piste run for our advanced riders.
Huge amount of terrain
Isolated
I am a regular weekend skier at Whistler Blackcomb from opening date to late May. I skied at Valle Nevado from June 22-27, 2008. Compared to WB, VN has smaller terrain, significantly fewer runs and much slower chairs but virtually no line ups at the lifts and restaurants. The runs were wide and groomed and are quite long. However, the layout of the mountain is not very well connected, especially when low visibility, hard to know which rope tow /poma connect to which run. Also, there is only one fast quad chair (the Andes Express). The "black" runs are not really that difficult, more like "blue" runs at Whistler. None of the runs had moguls. I tried to ski off-piste away from the groomed runs. The scenery of Los Andes is beautiful and I can see Santiago from the distance buried under the black smog.
