Great family fun

The overall ski resort is really very small, really very good for families with small kids, but for grownups even if you area beginner it's too small. Especially if you are a very beginner the upper part of the runs are quite steep, and the total length of the runs is short. I don't think they even rate the runs well, to me all the runs could be defined as green, may be one (the upper part of the edelwiess) could be consider as a light blue
Family frendly
runs too short, very old lifts
Fantastic local resort, hometown Olympic ski resort of Diane Roffe -- with plenty of intermediate and beginner rated slopes. I love the rope tows, J-Bars and T-Bars. Leave the "high speed" quad lifts to the mega-resorts. Prices are WICKED reasonable, and lots of opportunity to develop SOLID ski technique. Just 20 miles from Webster, NY -- so close you can go for just a few hours. Gives us 1/2 hour or more "on" the slopes, instead of car-sitting to overcrowded Bristol. Makes the occasional trip to Ellicottville (Holiday Valley), or Cortland (Greek Peak) all the more special. These are people who just want to Ski, Ski, Ski (and Snow Board). Instructors have this stuff in their BLOOD, with games and loads of fun for the kids. We ADORE the group ski club called "bears" for our elementary school aged children, who won awards last year (Now I am Boasting with Pride) and are getting addicted to skiing. Wow, its like magic. After a couple years of renting (very affordable at Brantling), we bought used equipment and a season's pass for the entire family. Our deal with the kids, electronic games during travel to and from, . . . . but just FRESH AIR and skiing while there. Food from the snack bar is fine, (I like the chili ENTIRELY too much). But we often bring snacks, and/or sandwiches . . . all is good, No one messes with our stuff. Oh, just one last thing. Please do NOT tell people about this secret Treasure. All the big, important people travel farther and pay the big, BIG for better known ski resorts. If the word gets out, it will ruin our special ski hills in Sodus, NY, just miles from suburban Rochester. (And the owners will get too rich, and not have to be so friendly).
Family Friendly, Nice People
Kids Growing and wish they wouldn't eventually want more
I grew up skiing at Brantling, practiced and raced during high school, learned to ride a left-handed rope tow. Back then it was a small family owned ski area. The rest rooms were out house building in the parking lot. No fancy cafeteria. We brought PB&J and hot choclate. Brantling was probably one of the first in the area that had an "out of bounds" area, where we built our own ski jump. Most importantly, Brantling is a small family friendly area that is still afforable. It produced an Olympic champion skier: Diane Roffe-Steinrotter. I had the pleasure of skiing with her growing up and her husband "Willie". "Fifi" Steinrotter was the most amazing racing coach I have ever met. He started us young. So enjoy the small, friendly place. Plus I hear, the rest rooms are inside and flush!
Ski Races and family friendly
Those who don't understand the place
This place is way to small and with no chair lifts it is really slow to get to the top

everything
Has a good atmosphere for all. The staff is excellent and they are well trained. Each instructor provides each student with important skills that will help them learn or improve as a skier. The resort also has excellent race training with excellent coaches. When your not skiing you can sit and enjoy a drink and some excellent food.
polite staff, good training and learning

Great place to learn and get a feel for skiing. Without the use of chairlifts you are always on your feet, which is great for learning. Amazing trainers and staff make this place a very good place to go to have a fun relaxing time away from the other local place. Prices are very affordable too. Their race program is legendary with many amazing skiers leaving their program. Great job!!!! Keep up the good work.
Brantling is perhaps the best family and learning environment out of all of NY's resorts. Staff is exceptional and it is easy to feel at home here. Smaller, not crowded facility is great for learning and getting a lot of practice runs. Fantastic instructional programs for all ages with caring instructors.
